Hello-We are very new to sailing. Just bought a 1993 MacGregor and are getting her ready for an outing. Problem: the Pop-top won't stay up. The previous owner installed forced air lifts (4) that help hold it up but the top sways and goes crooked after just putting it up. Not safe or fun. We attached it properly with a screw to the mast but it is too wobbly. Afraid to let the kids touch it. Any advice on what to buy to get it to stay up safely without moving/wobbling? I think the lifts that he bought are too thin but not sure. Help! Thanks everyone.

Find another Mac

Look at another Mac, I think the original rods were 3/4" aluminum tubing mounted on Bolts that were capped with Acorn nuts for safety. These are much stronger IMHO. Steve P.

Many Thanks

Thanks Steve. I will let my husband know what you have suggested. He's been out there for a few hours now trying different ideas that he is coming up with but this sounds workable. Appreciate your help. Phyllis

Check the bolts

I have had a 22 and a 26d with pop tops and neither swayed at all. Both used a rope around the mast to stay up. Simple, but worked. I suspect you may have some of the bolts missing. Good luck. The pop top makes a big difference.

Many Thanks

Thanks Ed for your ideas. I will let my husband know that there may be something else to look for. We appreciate your input into our problem. Can't wait to get sailing and have the pop-top work. Thanks again--Phyllis
