Carl..........................When you fully extend the poptop.... it fits flush against the back of the mast .There is a semi-circle cutout on the forward end of the poptop that allows the top to "wrap around" the mast. There should be a thumbscrew fitting that slide up the track in the mast and hooks under the lip of the poptop to keep it up. Look for the fitting at the very bottom of the rear track of the mast.... if missing it should be fairly easy to find something that you could jury rig to keep your poptop up. Whatever you do....... be careful....... use something secure......... a poptop falling on fingers....... will break one or more. Good luck!!

after you get it up, and secured with the small nut, keep in mind, when lowering it to keep all lines clear when u are securing it. I find when I go to raise it, if i tighten up the 4 lockdown bolts at an angle away from the locked position (inward) they cannot stick on the chrome holder when u go to raise it.
I own a capri and don't have a pop top but many of the other owners at my club do. When the top is up, there is some type of hook mechanism which holds the top directly the the mast.
Ther should be a u-shaped bolt attached to the mast onto which the poptop rests. You tighten this bolt to hold the poptop against the mast. I love mine and use it often.
