Pop top on O'Day 23 1975

Hello all,
I have an O'Day 23 buit arround 1975. I'm going to put new electrical panels with switches on one of the walls ( sorry for not using the right word) of the cabin. This model has a pop top that rises part of the cabin roof ( not all the cabin like the previoud model). In order to use the space behind the wall I have to be carefull to not put the electrical wires in the middle of the way of the mechanism that keeps the roof lifted. The roof rests when is lifted in two metalic bars that are hiden inside these walls on both sides of the door. At this point this system is not working and I would like to fix it too. Does anyone know how this system works?

I wanted to first welcome you aboard.
I do not have an answer to the problems. I have never seen the design of oday you have. Could you post some pictures. It sounds interesting.

Yes, welcome. I think your top uses 1 or 2 metal hoop rails (that look similar to a tiny bimini top hoop). These work in conjunction with the rectangular metal slide tubes to hold the top up. They have a tiny retaining clip they snap into.(clip and hoop may be hidden until top is raised). Use your head and hands to "pop" top and then push up, (they stick when not used). It has been a long time since I have looked at one of these- but I think if you push it up, everything you need will be visible and make sense- good luck.

Hello again and thanks for the wellcome.
Since I'm new in this forum I should introduced me in first place, so I'm attaching some pictures of my boat ( also Keith was curious about the model ). I'm living in Balearic Islands, Spain, so the first question maybe should be, what is an old and charming american boat doing in Spain? ...
The boat is done with the first basic refurbishment to get into the water and now I´m starting with all the rest (a lot). The good thing about this boat is that the last owner installed an old but trustable 10hp disel inboard engine. It is a very useful modification and nice for safety if the sea gets rough.

About the real question ( the pop top) I have to say that I thought that was going to be a much more complicate mechanism. I poped up the cover and it was as simple as it can gets, and it didnt needed to be fixed.
I attached also pictures of the cover just if anyone is interested on this in the future.

That's a nice looking boat. You're going to have a great time with it. One of the pleasures of owning a boat is the modifications that can be done on it to personalize it. You can get some pretty good ideas on this site by checking out the picture albums. Good Luck!
