It is an amazing feat. The trip even included a journey up the Erie Canal in NY and onto the Great Lakes. Since the Hokulea does not have motor, it was towed up the canal. In what was an amazing incident of serendipity the Draken, a replica of a Viking sailing vessel was leaving the Great Lakes after sailing from Norway and up the St. Lawrence River. The boats met in Sylvan Beach NY.
Saw this in the NY Times. Ben Finney was one of the founders of the Polynesian Voyaging Society that oversees the Hokulea. Sad that he died before the boat returned to Hawaii.
