Hello everyone, this is my first time posting something here. Early this summer I bought a 1989 Hunter Vision. The boat came with a pole an Asymmetrical sail. I’m getting to know the boat pretty good and I’m ready to try that sail, I do not know where to hook up that pole, it has a claw at both end of the pole. I race on a CS35 and on that boat the pole is attach to the mass. Did any body try to fly the Asymmetrical on a hunter vision? I would like to know a bit more, any advice. Don’t tell me what my wife is telling me “We don’t need to fly this it sound like to much work J”

I would like to thanks anybody that will respond to this message

Welcome to SBO!

Jean, I have a 1990 Vision and like it very much ... good luck with yours! Unfortunately, I don't have any kind of spinnaker or whisker pole on mine but it seems to me that if your whisker pole was set up by the prior owner, that there should be a connector for it on the mast.

When you do find out, please let us know what you found. I entertain the idea of getting an asym some day.

Jean the Asymmetrical is hoisted with a spinnaker halyard, in front and slightly above the headstay. The tack is normally secured on the bow, attached completely in front of the boat. I installed a boom bail on my anchor roller for that purpose. There are other ways to install it but this one seems very popular. The asym is flown almost like a genoa but installed like that it cannot be tacked side to side. You must gybe it. The lazy sheet is running in-between the sail and the headstay. You have to gybe when you want to change from port to starboard tack. Most effective from about beam wind to about 160 degrees. I sometimes used a telescopic whisker pole which is secured to a height adjustable eyelet on a track on the mast. Good luck ? Beautiful area you're in. good luck

Hello Run
The owner before me was not to resourceful. He never flew that sail and never use the pole. It might take me some time but I will find out. I'll let you know when I do try it.
Thank you
Jean

Don't use the pole with an assym. Made to be flown without one. The pole (probably a whisker pole?) is for going wing and wing with your genoa poled out when dead down wind.

This make lots of sense. Thank you

CCHer is right. The only pole that is used for an asymmetrical is one mounted on the deck or in the hull called a sprit. It pushes the tack away from the boat so that the mainsail does not block the wind so much on the A kite.
