Has anyone looked for or found the polar plot for the optimum sailing angles for a given true wind speed and direction for a H33 ? There is a good article and definition of this in the April 08 issue of Sailing World. USSailing will calculate a plot for $250 (ouch). Jeff

Maybe in archives?

Search the "Forum Archives" for "polars". I didn't read everything there but I did see that some people were giving away software for calculating polars. The Related Link is one example.

Checked the archives about a year ago

Didn't find anything when I searched the archives about a year ago when I went looking for those diagrams. Maybe someone has put something up since but I've had my eyes open and haven't seen them. I did a moderately thorough search of the rest of teh Interwebs also and didn't come up with anything there, either. I'd be very interested in seeing these myself, if you come up with anything, Jeff.

They are rare and useless

While you could conclude that polars are cool and the answer to a lot of sailing questions they have their own problems. The boat is probably not set up exactly like the boat the polars are done for, the sails are probably not new, the seas are not flat for all the given wind speeds, the boat is loaded differently..........You end up compairing two compleatly different boats and the polars for the "stock" boat while generally correct are less correct than your experence for your boat. Factor in the waves and you get dramaticly different results.
