I am gathering information on the Cat 30 for a purchase. First I was wondering if anyone has created or if Catalina has a polar diagram for the Cat 30. Also I have read a number of articles regarding the "Catalina Smile" along the forward keel area and would like to know it that is an issue with the 89 Cat 30. Finally the model I am considering is a tall rig with a wing keel. I have heard that early models of the wing keel compromised upwind performance. Is that true of the 89 Cat 30s?

Ihave a1988 C30 wing keel and there is a small loss of pointability in light wind.Once the wind picks up to 14 or 15 knots I dont feel like Im lossing groung to other sailers .Ihave a150 genoa that I have to start rolling up in 18 to 20 knots of wind .If I roll it smaller then 125 I dont pointvery well at all.The sails are old and I think I will buy anew sail .maybe a135 so I hold abettershape at about110 % I sail on alake thats 3 mil wide and a150 is apain to tack .I think this boat will sail best with afill main and 100% jib in about 20 to 25 knots of wind at 25 knots my wife makes me go shoping. The boat dosent sail very well on main or genoa alone .The wing keel is 400lbs heaver then the finkeel and my boat is loaded with a ton of stuff my wife, three kids, a big dog and me.If I sail in the spring by my self before the troops start going out with me the boat sails much better. The new hunters seem to point highter to the wind then I do.They have afull batten main sail and a150% genoa and the boatis a third lighter.
