Pointing Problem

Since we sail in an area of extreme tides and frequent strong winds we have the boat reefed alot. My problem is that she will not point very high under these conditions. I understand this has a lot to do with the sail shape and balance of the rig, but recently I read in this forum a discussion about a "foam piece" which works on the luff of the jib. The general thought was that this helped the boat point higher when reefed. I did not save the discussion, and would like to hear from anyone who could give me more information about this. Thanx in advance. GaryG

That was my post

If you look under the forum archives, the title of my post was "great day, how do I point higher". I just checked the replys and for some reason the reply about the foam luff on the furling jib is not there. It was posted by Bruce from NC I believe. On my furling jib you can only pull it in a couple of turns, maybe just less than halfway before it is useless. Bruce said that a foam luff on a furling jib will help it keep shape when rolled in and that this would help. My jib does not have this foam piece and I haven't really checked into getting one put on. But if you read my post, I have the same problem as you and fear it may just be old sails.
