I have recently found my long dormant interest in poetry revived and attempted to write my first.

Secret Handshake

How could it happen so fast?
They will wonder, whisper, ask.
They must be crazy, they must be desperate.
But no, they do not know.
There is a secret society abroad in the world,
like the Free Masons who, by their special handshakes,
recognize each other.
By the unique feel of our two minds touching,
we know that we have found another,
of this secret society of two.

I think this must have something to do with the light in the cabin.

Of course, it is just an inspiration and poem; not an announcement. It's a long road from finding out that you really connect with someone to figuring out what to do about it.

Congratulations Roger. Does the announcement have a name?
I think I married her sister.

No, nothing formal. She won't even be on the boat for other than visits for some time as she is still in transition to retirement. One particular crew billet has been stricken from the ship's roster however.

Married? Been there, done that, got the tee shirt and the divorce papers (both of us). Once is enough for some things.

using this thread to ask you a question - congrat's, also

Roger, thx for your excellent and inspiring blog/web site on adventures of Strider.

I'm an old salt whose been holed up in Austin, TX for several years and it looks like we are headed back to water in St Petersburg, FL. I'm excited about getting back into sailing - day sailing, dinner cruises, gunkholing, occasional basic camping/cruising, Sunday picnic to near-by island/beach in Tampa Bay.

I've always loved smaller, double-ender, ketch/yawl/schooner craft and am very tempted toward the Roziante Ketch. I came across your blog and the picture of the 27' daysailing ketck, Quarter Moon - you mention it to be your design, that one was built, and seen fairly recently. Could you give me any more info or links to any built boats/owners/locations, drawings, plans, yards/builders willing to build one. Also, any basics or specs - like hull material, dimensions, esp. draft (keel I assume but c'board/keel would be ideal),m and what, if anything, can go on in the cuddy cabin - hoping for a port-a-pottie. Also, did the text mention small inboard engine? That would make it perfect.

Any info you've got would be so appreciated. Thanks. and good luck on your travels, esp. if you are about to embark on a new chapter.

That boat was one of the few I have designed that was a disappointment. I'm not sure why but it just didn't sail very well.

OTOH, my Yawldory design, see earlier posts, sails like a witch and better than I thought possible. There is a recent post about her. She is very comfortable to sail in and has carried up to 7 people easily. The floorboards can be lifted up to make a sleeping platform amidships.

She is a rowing / sailing craft. If you wanted an inboard engine, you could enlarger her to 24 - 27 feet. In that case, I would rig her differently as she is already a bit large for handling the sprits easily. Gaff sails would work well.
