Pocket Below Stove

What is the intended purpose of the pocket below the stove? It's nicely crafted and could hold a bottle of wine or a somewhat depleted roll of paper towels, but I do wonder what Gerry Douglas had in mind.

I'm not sure...

A fire extinguisher fits nicely in the pocket. That's what I have in mine. I don't know what the intentions were, though, for this pocket.

I use it for Paper Towels-works great.
