My manual head has suddenly become stubborn...... to flush I pump the handle but it has begun to resist the stroke, and "rides" back up about 6 inches when I release it...what's happening?
1. A blockage in the head discharge hose. 2. A blocked holding tank vent (check both the line and the thru-hull).3. If the toilet is a Par/Jabsco, they've had a problem with the dry/flush mechanism hanging up and creating a resistance that feels similar to a blockage...but it's usually only on "dry." They've been pretty good about replacing pumps, so call 'em.4. If the toilet is a Raritan PH II, you prob'ly have a failed or clogged air valve (Looks like a little square nut on the front the pump cylinder...take it out and clean it. If that doesn't clear up the problem, replace it.5. Somebody turned the y-valve to the overboard position and forgot to open the seacock. If any of the above applies to your head, don't rule out 1 and/or 2...could be a combination of causes.
my jabsco does exactly the same thing.if you look at your wet/dry selector valve when this happens, it will be about 1/8" inch away from being completely closed in the dry position. that 1/8" inch makes all the difference.i occasionally get the same back pressure, head won't flush, handle pops up about 6", i nudge the valve over 1/8" inch and it works great...try it!!good luck. as Peggy suggested. I had the same problem with mine, the wetdry selector wouldn't go all the way over to the dry side completely resulting in back pressure. I emailed JABSCO at WWW.JABSCO.COM, explained the problem and they sent me an entire new pump assembly free of charge. This one has a much more positive action on the selector switch, a definite "click" when moving from wet to dry.Drop them a line.Tom LaRoccoFollow the Sun98 H376
...better luck fixing it than you seem to having with your caps lock... ))Which reminds me...we seem to have several new members who seem also to be so new anywhere online that nobody's told 'em yet that typing in all caps is the online equivilant of SHOUTING AT EVERYONE. Yes, I know it's easier to use all caps if you're not much of typist--I wasn't when I first logged onto the 'net, and I had to be told to turn my caps lock off too...but it's also much harder to read. As you struggle with it, think of this: once you become a good typist, if you're downsized by your company, you can always find work as a temp.
