Hi Peggie,
I've been reading your forum for quite some time but now would like to ask for help deciding how to proceed with my newly acquired Hunter 27 (1989). The head (Jabsco refurbised with new pump/valves) had been previously plumbed straight overboard. When I bought the boat, I installed all new Trident 101 hose to allow use of the holding tank and pumpout. When I got to the last tank fitting, I found that it had been broken half way off - probably installed that way 21 years ago.

Do you recommend a new Ronco tank (a bit bigger than the current 10 gallon tank will fit) or go the porta potti MSD route? If I install a new tank now I could keep the refurbished Jasbsco toilet until it dies, then replace it wiht something better.

Thanks in advance for your help!

Jess

That's up to you...

Swapping out the toilet and tank for an MSD portapotty will free up a lot of storage space and eliminate toilet maintenance, and also cost you a lot less in the long run than a new larger tank and then a toilet upgrade in another year or two. Also give you a lot more capacity in terms of the number of flushes.

But, you already have a toilet and hose...alll you need is a new tank....which will cost you just about the same amount as a 5-6 gal MSD potty.

Otoh, if you go with the MSD potty, I betcha somebody you know who has a Jabsco toilet will discover in the spring that it needs a new pump and will be glad to take your off your hands for a bargain price....and I betcha somebody can use the extra Trident hose that you won't need...

But...it's your boat, your money and your idea of the right equipment for it...so it's your choice.

I have a 27' 1973 Ericson that is also only plumbed for overboard dumping and has no wastewater tank and is in need of a new toilet. From what I've picked up from this thread I take it I am best off going the porta potty route?

Considering the space available (or lack thereof) on your 27' Ericson, I'd have to say the Porta-Potty would, in all probability, be your best bet - both from a cost standpoint and from an aggravation standpoint in trying to install and plumb a holding tank on a boat that was not originally designed to have one.
