The plumbing diagram for the head for my 1980 37 Cutter is inadequate and probably in error- the original holding tank is in place and probably everything else is original also- does anyone know where I might find a detailed diagram for the head plumbing system?

If it's all still original after 21 years...

it's LONG overdue for replacement! It's so unlikely that any part of it that old could still be working that I doubt it could still be original. Whether it is or not, you're better off tracing all the plumbing yourself, than relying on any diagrams...if for no other reason than to see first hand the condition it's all in.

Peggy-thanks for your reply...

I wouldn't think it was original except for the fact that every hose leading to the holding tank is inaccessable because the tank is glassed in under the shower seat- that's the problem with the 37 cutter- I'm not really sure if I want to replace to holding tank yet but it seems impossible to replace any of the hoses leading to it

George, there's a way to get into the shower seat

That's where the tank is on a whole BUNCH of Hunters, and the owners have managed to replace 'em without taking a chain saw to the boat. (Eddie, I know you read my posts...tell 'em to use screws, not sealant...you'll make future owners' lives so much easier!) Hunters buit before about '91 or '92 all had aluminum tanks, and urine is HIGHLY corrosive...it's really essential that you find a way to get in there and see what kind of condition your tank is in. Even if it's still ok (which is unlikely after even 5 years of use, so I'm REALLY concerned that it may be leaking), there's the matter of hoses. Nothing stinks in cold weather...but if those hoses are still original after 20 years, they're have to be permeated by now, which means your boat is NOT gonna smell very good in June. If they don't stink, it has to mean that a previous owner has replaced 'em fairly recently...and that also means he was able to get to the tank. And unless the same previous owner did something REALLY stupid--like seal it all up again with something like 5200--that you should be able to get to everything too, if you work at it a bit. I"d also like to suggest that you spend a few minutes in the Head Mistress forum Reference Library (on the home page)...there are at dozen articles in it you should find very informative, if not actually useful in tackling this project. Boat builders--and especially well-meaning previous owners--don't make it easy sometimes, but the smartest thing any boat owner can do is find EVERYthing on his boat and know its condition. It saves a lot of nasty surprises when you least need a nasty surprise.

H37C holding tank.

George, there are about 100 discussions of this in the archives. You can see the plumbing diagram in the manual at: http://people.ne.mediaone.net/tlyons/tdl/hunter/index.html If you call Hunter they might have copies in 11"x14". If not then write and I will send you one. One problem is that Hunter kept changing the layout, my 1979 is the same as your 1980 I think. The first ones had a bladder tank in the v-berth. The main differences though were the location of the Y-valve and the manual pump for overboard. My own was modified for the Great Lakes by removing the pump and Y-valve, cutting out the showerseat tank, and placing a tank in the center of the v-berth. Write for further details. And see Gene Gruender's "Boat Modifications at: http://www.geocities.com/TheTropics/Cabana/7414/index.html Ed(schencked@bfusa.com) s/v Ladylove
