There was a survey of marine life around Plum Island - known to many of you as an Animal Research Facility - just East of Orient Point. The island is in Southold Town as in FIsher's Island. The survey was just published and it is enthusiastic in praise for the condition of marine life there.
I don''t know how they did the survey but they used divers. The swift currents, dangerous rocks and lack of a meaningful slack water make it a challenging place to dive. You I can read the report here (I Hope).
