I like to troll while sailing and fish when the wind is dead. I just took mast up storage at MDR and am looking for fishing holes that are within a 12 mile radius. I know of a few around San Pedro and Dana but nothing in this area. I met some people who were going lobster hooping off Santa Monica at a place they called the Rock Pile, however, I haven't been able to get a GPS location for it. Thanks for any suggestions.

Welcome to MDR

Sorry, not a fisherman, just wanted to welcome you to the mast-up neighborhood.

Thanks, Welcomes are always appreciated

Thanks for the welcome. MDR has got to be the best deal going for storage mast-up or otherwise. Checked with Dana Harbor and they wanted $280 with a huge waiting list. The .50 a foot overnite slip is also very reasonable for days when I don't feel like loading it on the trailer. By the way found coordinates for 2 man made reefs in Santa Monica Basin. Reef 1 lat 33 57.54, lon 118 29.10. Reef 2 lat 33 58.06, lon 118 29.11 Thanks again, Frank

storage rates and weather info

Yeah, I can't believe the rates are so low for such an amazing location. I almost hesitate to ever mention it because I don't want people to swarm it and cause them to raise their rates. In case you haven't seen it, the UCLA Marina Aquatic Center has a weather station and a webcam online. It's physically located right at that UCLA launch ramp where the channel makes a dog-leg from the breakwater. Here's the URL: http://marinaaquaticcenter.org/weather/MAC_Conditions.htm It's great to have a reliable source of wind data in pretty much the perfect location. They even have a stripped-down version that's cell-phone-browser-friendly. Although, I can't stand looking at the graphs on that website (if I'm looking at "historical" data...older than 1 day). For that, I much prefer the Weather Underground site: http://www.wunderground.com/weatherstation/WXDailyHistory.asp?ID=KCAMARIN1

Wunderground swell page.

Thanks for the info on UCLA's website. Here is a page from Wunderground's that I like to use because it also has the swell and wind wave heights. They also have a pared down version for the PDA.

wunderground PDA?

Sweet! I like. I use mobile.wunderground.com on my Blackberry for general forecasts and marine forecasts, etc, but I can't seem to find out how to get buoy observations in the mobile format. Any ideas?
