Yamaha 33 Vancouver
Hi Folks:
I've owned my Yamaha 33 for about a year now, and I'm still puzzled by this ... here's a photo of the base of the mast (inside the cabin). Water collects at the base (no problem), but has nowhere to go. There's a molded "cavity" beside the mast that also fills with water ... with no place to drain. Seems to me that drainage holes in both the mast base and the cavity - directly into the bilge - would make more sense. What was Yamaha thinking (or what am I missing?).
Thanks!
Doug

small drain holes

That looks like a picture of the front of the mast step? My 36 has two very small holes in the back of the mast step that protrude down on an angle into the bilge. They are only about 1/8" in size, the same size as the ones at the base of the mast and they plug up very easily.

Good luck,
Bob

Our Yamaha 33 has two small holes at the rear of the mast step. It appears the holes have been enlarged slightly with a drill, There are two shoelaces which wick water out of the mast step into the bilge by resting in the mast step, then passing through the small holes and fitting through under the floor board aft the mast.

Seems to keep the step dry.
