Play in rudder

On sailing boat home after delivery I noticed play in steering. On hauling boat this winter ther was 1" play at bottom of rudder. Removing rudder and fitting new sleeves from Hunter making no difference, does any one else have expierience of this problem? The inside diameter of the nylon sleeves is too large or the s/steel bearers are too small.

Play OK, I think...

Julian, My 1998 310 also has ½ - 1” of play at the rudder tip. It has been this way since delivery three seasons ago. It does not seem to be increasing noticeably and does not affect performance as far as I can tell. Unless others have further info, I would not worry about it. Sail it and enjoy!
