Plastimo 16274 air pump for engine room - how is it controlled?

Hi Beneteau Owners,

In my Beneteau Oceanis 37 sailing boot from 2009 there is a 12 volt air pump installed, type Plastimo 16274, to extract air from the engine room. However this pump has never worked on my boat. The pump is not broken as I've put it directly onto 12 volt and it is working perfectly.

What I'm looking for is information about how the pomp is enabled? Which system, mechanism is enabling this pump? Any idea's?

I've tried to follow the wires but that is a mission by itself, it is impossible to follow the wires throughout the end.

Hope somebody can help me on this subject. Thanks in advance.

Cheers, Renee

Mine turns on with first click of key and stays running until key is turned off. It should be in your electrical prints how its hooked up No relays directly off ignition switch as per prints (Perkins)

On my boat there is a relay zip tied to a coolant hose. It has two diodes on the out contact. I believe one diode feeds the air blower and one feeds the turn on wire to the battery isolator.

Ours goes on/off with the 'ignition' switch (I know, not really an ignition switch....) but it does so through an interposing 12V relay.

Hi Renee,
For whatever is worth the schematics of my First 38 '82 mention a fuse for this pump on the engine panel. I suspect you need to access the back of the panel to check this as there is no fuse holder on the front. Second suspect would be wiring, there is a junction box right by the blower in my unit yours may be similar butt splices there are not sealed and may have corroded.
Cheers,
Alejandro

On my Oceanis 37 the fan has an interlock on the feed so it will only run when the engine is running, hence the relay and diodes mentioned in the earlier post.

I believe thats the standard Beneteau set up..

The relay is the green box in the background. It is possible to see one of the diodes, they are in clear heat shrink. I have verified that this is the blower control.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I will check the back panel used to switch on/off the engine (etc). I hope to fine a fuse or a loose cable or so. I also got this info from an installer working with Beneteau boots. I will post another message her if I found the solution. Thanks again.

Diodes are only used because of the dc relay. When the relay shuts off it induces a spike (generates) from the coil which can take out electronics .The diode stops the spike. No relay as in Perkins requires no diode

The diodes are inline with the outputs. One wire/diode goes to the blower and one to the battery isolater. I imagine they are used to prevent interaction between the blower and isolater. A diode across the relay coil is used to prevent voltage spikes just as you said. I think its called a diode shunt or flyback diode.
