While strolling through a Boater's World Store the other day, I noticed a package containing whatlooked like a plastic bicycle chain with what were apparently easily removable links. This item was billed as a quick, temporary fix for any engine belt that might go and which would be at least enough to get you home for a proper belt replacement in case you couldn't easily get wrapped up in a proper belt replacement excersize. Of course this assumes you're not somewhere in the middle of the ocean motoring "home". :) Anyone out there used one of these puppies? Any good? I think it went for only about $12.00 and seemed like it would be well worth having along, if it works. Thanks, Jim

Why Not

carry a spare of the correct size? Then you know it will fit and be reliable. Regards,

Carry Real Spare but...

Hi, Well, I do carry a real spare, but this application might be well suited to running into problems while being bounced around on choppy seas when you might not want to be fooling around with tensioning a real belt. These plastic jobbers can be adjusted by popping out plastic parts and then put right on to pulleys without messing with alternator mounts and such... Jim
