Peg, As part of a Hurricane repair project I stripped out the lazarette. Now have all the parts and hoses from the head/holding tank system in a box, Need to get the system up and running. What is the down side of using platic pipe from Home Depot to replace the plastic hose from West Marine ?? Can forsee a fitting problem as the plastic hose is flexable = but the hoses in this system (most probably put together in 1988 when the boat was built) have seen better days - expecially the coragatted ones. Plan to use a very short run of flexable cuppling between the plastic pipe and the fittings on the hardware. I'm gussing that there is a price bonus in using plastic pipe. Appreciate your thoughts RD

I'm guessing that by "plastic pipe" you mean

hard PVC pipe. As long as it's well supported and "soft coupled" to anything rigid (toilet, tank, thru-hull, y-valve, macerator etc) with enough hose cushion shock it's ok. The only downside is, that means a lot of unions, including any needed for fittings in bends, all of which are potential leakers sooner or later.

Just finished replacing my hoses ...

and I used Schedule 80 PVC pipe instead of hose for the section of pump out hose that will always be holding waste (the section from the bottom of the holding tank up to a few inches above the tank level. I joined the pipe to the tank with a short section of hose to allow for flex. I used hose (and not pipe) for the Head to Tank connection because it had too many bends and turns to consider using pipe. The down side is that I had to buy a 20' length of this pipe and only used 1.5' and it more expensive that the normal Schedule 40 pipe (commonly used for pools, etc) Chris
