Does anyone know where I can obtain plastic mast hoops for a 1964-65 Starcraft 14-footer? I believe they are about 3" in diameter (at least I know they are bigger than the 1 1/2-inch Sunfish hoops.

How about making them by cutting slices from a PVC pipe?

Did that for a small gaf I built and they worked very well.

Thanks for the suggestions, Steve and Greg

That gives me another potential source for hunting 'em down and a Plan B.

How about a sail maker?

I did a little research on this, and all I could find in the size you need are made out of wood and are $10 each. I also found some threads about making them out of PVC pipe. You would need a 4" PVC pipe cut 5/8" thick.

Really good ideas...

the pvc version and embroidery hoops are both good ideas. i'm going to try both versions next week when i get back to the lake and my boat. of course, for the embroidery hoop the question will be strength given the force of the wind on the sail and durability under wet conditions (marine varnish to protect, I'm thinking). I'll need a link to connect the hoop to the sail but that's no biggie. Thanks, folks!

Of course, if you want to make it look old and classy, why not pick up a few wood embroidery hoops in the 3 inch size, about $1.50 each on Amazon at;

Just an idea.......
