Does anyone have any impressions about Plasdeck or Tek-Dek? I'm interested in knowing what you think about the quality, durability, looks, and ease of installation if you did this yourself. I am thinking about installing one of these products on the small cockpit sole of my O'day Mariner. Currently the gelcoat non-skid is badly cracked because a previous owner installed some upright supports under the cockpit sole but it flexed the fiberglass upwards too much. Thanks for any feedback on this. Hal

Fix the gelcoat

Why not repair the gelcoat? If you put down the plastic wood, you still need to fix the gelcoat so it doesn't leak. Replacing the non-skid gelcoat is easier than you think. If you can roll paint with a paint roller, you can replace the non-skid. I can supply details if you want. No impressions yet as to Plasdeck as I haven't built the deck on the back of the house yet. Wow Hal, That's ugly

I wouldn't be surprised it that actually cracked the CSM also. I'd fix that either way. Good news is that you can fix the cracks with any color gelcoat if your going to cov er it, no one will ever see it. As far as the molded patern is concerned, you'll never match that, but you can put down a completely new pattern. I've heard of some guys using a window screen, rolling the gelcoat on over the screen and lifting it off the gelcoat and that leave a uniform pattern. Using DUratec High Gloss Additive, and gelcoat mixed at 50/50 then thickened with talc will give you a viscus paste that can be applied with a tectured roller. You only need a uniform pattern. The talc flattens the gloss. The Duratec makes it cure without wax. However, those materials aren't cheap either. And you'll need to sand the original pattern down with 80 grit. Sorry I can't help with the Plastic Decking material. Dan

kiwigrip

you may want to try Kiwigrip. I used it on my Oday 27 because the non-skid was very worn. I was slipping everywhere! It's fairly inexpensive and easy to apply. After several months, it's wearing very well indeed.
