Even though the Rendezvous in Deer Harbor, on Orcas Island is still a month and
a half away, Howard and I are starting to do a little planning.
My thoughts are:
Friday everyone arrives, and are on their own for dinner. HOWEVER, about a two
block walk from the marina there is a restaurant--the Deer Harbor Inn. They
have a great deck over looking the harbor, and a full bar. It'll be busy that
weekend, but if everyone thinks it would be a good place for us to convene on
Friday night, I'll make reservations for our group. (they have a HUGE old
Cadillac that they use to pick up people from the Marina and ferry them to the
restaurant if the walk seems too challenging.)
Saturday day--hang out, tour the boats. If Mitzi is here with the General (or
is it the Colonel?--her big car) she and I may be able to ferry some folks to
Eastsound (9 miles away) for a bit of shopping--though the economy has been
pretty hard on our little village--lots of empty store fronts. Saturday evening--BBQ & potluck. Bring what ever you'd like to throw on the
BBQ, and a dish to share, plus your favorite libations. Depending on how many people we have, we are thinking the dock at Deer Harbor
will be a bit crowded and crazy due to the holiday weekend, so we may arrange to
use a deck at the resort just above the marina, or go to the Deer Harbor
Community Club (DHCC) which is the 106 year old Deer Harbor School house, and
has lots of room. At the DHCC we can be outside or inside with a heater if the
PNW ice age continues into July. OR, we can do it at our house which is a quick
dinghy ride to the Cayou Quay Marina, and a half-a-block walk to our house, but
not as large a venue as the DHCC.
PLEASE RSVP--Really it comes down to numbers, so if you've already made
reservations at the Marina, OR you plan to come and anchor out or use our
mooring buoy would you please email me and let me know when you plan to arrive
and how many are in your party?

Thanks everyone!
