PLACEMENT OF SLINGS FOR HAULOUT

I'm preparing to haulout to paint the bottom and am concerned to get the aft sling far enough forward so that it doesn't damage the rudder. This is my first time at this. Appreciate your help.

Thanks,

What I always do it to take a photocopy of the side view drawing from the
manual with me and hand it to the travel lift operator. They really
appreciate that. I have them put the aft sling about where the cockpit
winches are. I always insist the slings are tied together.

Bruce, When they set you down on the hard make sure the yard has at least 3 blocks under the keel. We had a yard move us when Lyric was in storage in Mexico. They used two blocks placed fore and aft when they put her back down. The aft end of the keel is mostly a void and not very structural. Our glass was damaged and it took me a week to repair it. You must have a block under the middle of the keel as well as the ones fore and aft. Walt

I also recognized sling placement as a concern some years ago and decided to take a hint from the big boys, big sportfish etc, and screwed on two small plates saying "Sling" after a particularly well executed haul out with proper sling placement. I recall that the fwd sling was shortened as it goes just fwd of the keel while the aft sling is placed just fwd of the bottom rudder fitting and needs to be regular length.
This unevenness of the slings allows the boat to be raised level whereas with both slings the same length, the fwd sling goes up a long way to keep the boat level.
I will say though, some Yards are kind of set in their ways and will do it their way anyway regardless, so good luck with the impending haul-out.
I don't own "Flicka" anymore, so I can't send any pictures as to where exactly the plates are installed, so again good luck.
