I am so excited, I just found out that my 2001 Hunter 290 arrived at my dealer yesterday, and I can't wait to start sailing her (although it is at least 6 to 8 weeks before I do so). My question to the group is on a 290, where is the best placement for her name and homeport. Since the boat will be documented I have to have both displayed. I would pefer to have the name on the stern but I do not recall if there is an appropiate space large enough, with the steps and swim platform. I am sure others have had the same question, so where did you put the name? Now the only other hard part is deciding on a name. I am torn between 'Wanderlust', 'Wanderlust II' and 'Ithaka'. Wanderlust was the name of my first boat (the name came with the boat, and I liked it). Any suggestions on name placement would be greatly appreciated. Thank

I've been checking out 290's lately and there are four or five photos of boats for sale that show the name placement on the sides. I'm having the same problem with my old, nameless H25. The outboard bracket takes up most of the room on the transom, so I think I'm going to be forced to print "Freebie" on the sides. Good luck and congratulations on your new toy. You have to love NY weather!!!

The Hunters and Catalinas don't give adequate space for the name and port on the transom unless you use Arial 12 point. Somewhat illegible at a distance greater than 14". I have the name on the starboard side towards the stern. Best of luck with the new 29. She's quite a craft. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~__/)~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

As a documented boat there are some requirements as to how and where the name is placed. The home port must be on the stern, and if I remember correctly, in 3" or larger letters. The name of the vessle can go on the sides. We have a Cat 310 that had the same issues, and the above is what we did. Enjoy.

Hailing Port
I may be wrong, but I think that the hailing port can go on the sides, as well. And I think the letter size is a four inch minimum.....better check! Come to think of it, I had better check, as well, since my boat is documented and I have had the hailing port on the sides for years1

Docmented vessel have requirements
I have an older Hunter 30 which is also documented. You need to check the regulations, as they are very specific and detailed. Don't forget your Documentation Number has to be on the inside and non-removable. It's kinda cool to respond, when asked for your registration, to say "I'm a Documented Vessel". Have fun.

The vessel name of a commercial vessel must also be marked on the port and starboard bow and the vessel name and the hailing port must also be marked on the stern. All markings may be made by any means and materials that result in durable markings and must be at least four inches in height, made in clearly legible letters of the Latin alphabet or Arabic or Roman numerals. The "hailing port" must include both a place in the United States. The state may be abbreviated."
