I want to mount a MOB pole on the stern of my 84 H31, but because of the split backstay I don't know where I can place it. Anybody have any good ideas?

Not a one

We had one for years on our 34. Never found a good way to secure it to the split backstay. One day, up in Desolation Sound, BC, it FELL off of the boat in a blow. That was an eye opener. It layed flat on it's side. Never did come up. We recovered it but never forgot its' poor performance. (made by Forespar) But we still kept that thing until we reached Antigua. Then it went in the trash. Be sure and test yours.

Inside the boom

That's where I keep my docking pole. Precludes bird nests too.

Bill, MOB stands for Man Over Board pole

It has a big float on one end followed by a weighted section that is suppose to hold it up like a keel. (mine didn't) It's much too big to fit into most booms. What's a docking pole? Is it used for lassoing a piling?

Bob; I used to have mine on the back stay but that proved to be sloppy and was in the way. I took a piece of pvc piping, with an inside diameter slightly larger than the pole, and mounted it on the stern pulpit. You just need to decide which side you want it on and which vertical part of the pulpit works best for you. Mine is mounted on the port side pulpit where it goes from the down angle to the vertical portion. 1983 to 1987 H31 owners' will know what I'm talking about. Mac; 1984 H31 Kitkatla
