I just bought a repo H260 and am trying to get the mast up. The owners manual I downloaded says to pin the mast raising pole to the front of the mast and has a nice picture. My problem is there is no pin for the mast raising pole nor any place to put on at the foot of the mast. There is a pin for the mast and I have that in but no place for a pin forward of the main mast pin for the mast raising pole. And my mast raising pole does not have holes for a pin even. It has two half circles at the base but no holes for a pin. Can anyone help me. I think I can make it work but it just seems so strange. It is a 03 model. Thanks a lot for any help. Tip

I have two places that the gen pole gets pined. On the base plate, this was the orginial place but when I got a new mast it had a place on the mast itself. This picture is of the base plate.

Here's how mine works...
My 2001 H260 has the two half circles at the end of the mast rasing pole like you describe. The pole goes in a "hole" in the front of the mast up about 12" from the base. the two half circles in the pole lock around an extrusion in the mast to keep the pole from rotating. Be careful with the elecrtical wires in the mast. Another local sailor here in Boise with a 1999 H260 has the system John describes which is much different than my system. I hope this helps.

04 Gin pole
Your pole sounds to be similar to mine which is on an 04 260. There should be a small hole near the base of the mast that the pole slides into. The two semi-circular pieces slide on either side of a extrusion that will be at the bottom of the hole. Unfortunately I can't get to my boat at the moment but I might be able to draw up a diagram if you need one.

Gin Pole H260
twalker is right. The slotted end of the gin pole goes in the hole. Look in the hole you can see where the slotted part fits nicely. Atach the red halyard and the mainsheet to the other end. The mainsheet attaches to the anchor locker U bolt. The manual talks about a 10 degree angle but I've never figured out what that means. After you get the whole thing real tight the gin pole and the mast should be at 90 degrees to each other. I have a mast raising checklist at this link plus a picture of me trying to get that sucker up without getting a heneria. If you zoom in close you can see the red halyard, the gin pole, and the mainsheet clearly. If it all comes crashing down, don't sue me I'm just trying to help. I want to take this opportunity to thank all who have responded to muy sometimes not so brught questions. I finally stuck the pole in the hole at the base of the mast and it fits nicely. I can't get the mast all the way up because of the trees in my yard but tomorrow super bowl will take a back seat for me. So far I just have it all ready to lift. I installed a block on the bow pulpit
and use the trailer winch and cable instead of tne main sheet to raise my mast. Works great, no hernia, you can raise and lower it using 2 fingers.

George... Great checklist - - - Thank You!!! At your step #8, I presume you have a helper. My wife is not strong enough to lift the mast out of the cradle at that point, the point at which it's heaviest. On my 2001 h260, I found that after I get the jib halyard and mainsheet fully tensioned and the gin pole properly positioned, I can use the port side winch to crank the halyard and get the mast up the first few feet, after which I can use the mainsheet for the rest of the operation. It make raising the mast solo much easier and the other great denefit is with the with the mast up on the extension I can raise the pop top and work on the boat without smaken my head on the mast every time I climb up in the boat. I like ruedi ross idea of the block and using the trailer winch but I would have to make 15 trip up and down the boat to make sure nothing is hanging up while raising the mast. I like using the main sheet to raise the mast on the boat I just raise a little and walk back to check on the cables then raise some more.

before i raise my mast I pull the shrouds up to straighten out the turnbuckles and tape them to the lifelines with 2 wraps of electrical tape. this keeps the turnbuckles straight and you don't have the problem of a kinked turnbuckle. When the shrouds come tight, the tape pops off.
