I am new to sailboat ownership but not sailing. I purchased a 1993 Capri 18 and tried stepping the mast for the first time. I had no problem getting the mast up but I am having a problem pinning the furling drum to the front jibstay plate. It is about 1.5" too short to reach. I know it was in place when the previous owners had the boat. I saw this in pictures on the forsale ad. I had the boat picked up and delivered and was not present in the destepping. It has been suggested to me to loosen the side stays and then try pulling the mast farther forward or even using the trailer winch to get additional leverage on the mast. The problem is that the back stay turnbuckles are extended to there fullest extent. I am wondering if there is some additional hardware that is missing that would attach from the furling drum to the jibstay plate. This boat was donated to a nonprofit and I purchased from them. i have no direct contact to the previous owners. I am hoping someone will be able to help with this question.
