Pin Boards Rotting

I have a 1987 Hunter 23. The mainsheet traveller is located on the forward end of the cockpit and is bolted to the bulkhead at the cabin enterance. On my boat, there are two very small, inadequate drain slots in the fiberglass that are meant to allow rainwater trapped behind the traveller to drain. The drain slots plug quite easily which then causes the hatch or pin boards to sit in water for extended periods of time and eventually rot. I've already replaced the boards once. Has anybody with a 23 faced and solved this problem?

Replace the bottom board

Jim: Have you though about replacing the bottom pin board with Plexiglass. This would prevent it from rotting. Don't know what to tell you about the drains.

rotting pin boards,

I have an 89 23 and although I have to keep those little drains and the whole area clean ,I have never had such a problem as you describe, I have replaced the main sheet travelor track, and if i had what u are describing I would consider putting small spacers between the track and boat at each screw, like a noprene bushng, this should raise the whole track up just a bit and then let water drain , good luck Mike B

Traverler

I also found the small drain slots inadaquate on my h23 (1986) when I bought her five years ago. I simply removed the traveler (factory sealant is a little stuborn), put two s.s. washers as spacers under the traveler at each screw and reassembled with 5200. No more problem. You don't need to be a rocket scientist to come up with simple solutions.
