DAVE: I hope your wife is recovering and all is well. I have been away on vacation to Seattle and got back yesterday and just checked the How page hoping for pictures of your table arrangement. Have you had a chance to get them yet? I haven't started my plans yet to make one but want to have all my cards on the table before i start hashing out my options, and if yours is the BESTEST than i want to check it out. thanks chet p

Apologies.................

Chet, et al.... I'm really sorry to be so tardy, but I promise to post some pix soon. The hardest thing is getting all the crap off the table and arranging the crap in the background so Duet won't look too much like a crap-dump in the picture!!!! Happy to say Donna is back home aboard, and getting stronger every day. I really will post those pix of the bestest most wonderfullest salon table ASAP!!!! Dave

Wow Dave

how did you get those chairs through the companionway? Did you remove the starboard berth and water tank? As represented, the table is the most bestest.

Geeez, about time!

:) Very nice Dave. You have accomplished much in your "short" stay on Catalina. But "larger"? Did you originally have the double leaf table that went around the mast? Picture is not my boat but you can see how big it would be with both leaves up. Yours does not appear larger than that but I could be wrong. I do know that mine is too big. But I do like it when we eat below with guests. You may remember that I modified it so it can be moved. Makes cleaning and removing/reinstalling the carpet much easier. And now I can get it out of the way when the mast is unstepped/stepped. Yours is definitely the bestest but too much work for this old sailor.

Ed, you're right...

It is smaller. We never used the port side leaf. and now that I remember, that table was BIG! Yes, I removed the stbd settee and built the riser on the sole for your feet. My tools and house batteries live under there. The water tank is still in place. The chairs just wiggled their way inside. Those are the most comfortablest chairs....! Keep in mind that this is our Home, so the investment in time and $$$ has paid off many times over the years. Dave

CHET

NICE...REALLY NICE

I like the way you have it set up but you must have a newer 37 than i do. mine is a 79 and like the picture ed posted the bulkhead between the main salon and the head is not set back like yours is. I think i will take some of your idea and incorporate it into my own. I REALLY LIKE the swivel idea and the ability to raise it up and out of the way. since mine broke the DANCE FLOOR effect in the main cabin is great. if i could only convince the wife to just live with tv tables .... thanks for the pictures (and the ideas ) chet p.

Dave, raised sole starboard side?

Is that what I am seeing, if so is is raised to the level of the top of the water tank?

Answers

- Chet, I think you'll find my bulkhead is in the exact same place as yours. The "riser" goes up above the sole to about 4" short of the the pan that covers the water tank, and it goes from the main bulkhead all the way aft to the galley sink bulkhead. It's about 24" wide and has teak edging on the "front". You can see that edge as it "breaks" a bit to cear the mast in the photo showing the table set up for guests. This riser gives you someplace to put your feet, and the space underneath holds lots of tools and the house bank of batteries. Aw, hell, I'll take some more pix! Sure happy some of you can use the ideas. Dave

I SEE

after looking at the pictures again and reading your discripition it makes sense. just looks odd compared to what i am used to seeing. the teak and holly flooring is a bit of an optical illusion. thanks for all your input. it all goes to use and when all is said and done i always seem to take a little from here and a bit from there and make it work for me cp

Question

Dave, I really like the design and multi-functionality of your table. I'm a little concerned thou about bolting things onto the mast. I have a friend who owns a Peterson 34 which was dismasted in the Gulf . It also was a keel stepped mast. The mast buckled and the crew had to pull the stump up out of the boat to dicharge the mast and rigging overboard. Fortunatly they had some strong crew members. It would seem having things bolted on down below would have slowed the discharging of the mast considerably. Still it's a great design. Good luck,

Walt......

Walt...The photos are in the Photo Forum Under Cabin Table or some such. Royce... As to attaching things to the mast, I might agree with you if "Duet" were more of a passagemaker. We don't intend to cross any oceans soon. By the way, four 14"-20 SS bolts hold it all up, and it's very strong. It really is a convenient handhold right there in the middle of the cabin when the table is stowed above. Dave
