Picking up a new (2004) 146 this Friday but won't be able to put into water for 3 weeks as I will be traveling. Going through the old post and found a couple of projects that will need to be done (noodling, boomkicker and such) but looking forward to enjoying the boat.

I'll Help

Since you can"t launch for 3 weeks I'd be glad to take it and break it in for you!!!!!! It"s like being pregnant, the longer you wait the more the joy.

Welcome 146 owner!!

Yay!!!!! Wow - hunterowners.com - watch out! We 146 owners are coming on strong! I think there might now be THREE of us active on this board!!!!!!! Best of luck, Keith! I just came back from a 3 1/2 hr cruise, where wind went from a relaxed 8 knots to dead calm, but still sailed it all the way to the slip!! (OK - with a little bit of rocking and some paddling at the end, but htat was more because of the mucky mire of weeds in our marina. Relish the wait - it will be sooooo gooood once you're out there! By the way - the 170 owners here are GREAT, in spite of their huge egos that made them buy such big boats... ;) Just kidding everybody!!!!!!!!!! There's lots more of them, but we get the bennies cause our boats are so similar.

Jib sheet string

Picked up the boat and haven't had a real chance to really do anything with, but while looking at jib sail I noticed a string attached to the lower eyelet. What purpose does the string serve? Thanks for the help

For fuller bellies or for furling

Do you mean a thin string that has a very diminutive plastic jam cleat too? Might be for giving the sail a fuller belly for light winds. Your main should have it too. Pull down on that string, then up to cleat it, and will ive your sails more belly to catch those very light airs. You can release and relax them when the wind kicks up to flatten the sails and spill more wind. This line is along the leech exiting at the clew. OR...if you mean the string is at the tack - where the jib hooks up to the furler, then I haven't got a clue!! I can look at mine - it might be needed to help the furling mechanism furl the sail. I'll look at mine when I get back home. Or, call Hunter and they will explain it. I know the line you mean, and it's a mystery to me. Let me know what you find out! Enjoy!
