I have an old H-27( 1978) and need to replace the head sai. I have a CDI furling rig. I don't know much about sails and would appreicate advice on usinge a 100% furling Jib vs a 135% furling genoa. I sail on the LI sound and usually bob around on weekends . One or two overnighters a year. I was looking at the Doyle sails on the Hunter this web page. PS any advice on what measurements I'll need. I have the orig. owners maual that gives some of the specs. I don't think the mast or boom have been changed. Thanks.

Go with a 135

Own an 83 Hunter 27. Headsail sheets to blocks on the toe rail. Difficult to sheet in tight if sail is larger than l35 because stays are mounted to toe rail. Had a hanked on 110 original. Replaced with 135 and a Hood furler. Works real well. 5 0r 7 oz cloth depending on wind range desired. Good luck.

head sails

I would opt for the larger sail, especially in Long Is. sound. (you can always reduce sail area, and this would give you better performance) As far as your rig dimensions, every sail loft should have them, but they should measure your boat for an exact fit. I'd look at a 6 oz.+/- dacron for your sail. Mark.

furling

Have heard that it may be a consideration if the upper stem of the CDI furler rests on the cable or the swedge sheeve-- which may cause some flex fatigue in head wire. Anybody heard of this concern? J. McCue

went through that last year

Last year I bought 79 Hunter 27 with CDI furler but- no sail. I called all around got all differant advise. I bought a 150% Genny With a Black UV stripe from LEE sails in NY(about $700). When the air light we let it all out, more wind just roll it in.
