Hunter 310 Virginia Beach, VA
I'm comparing PHRF ratings for a stock 1997 Hunter 310. What is the non-spin. rating for this boat?

Hunter 28.5 Tolchester, MD
PHRF of the Chesapeake

If you Google PHRF of the Chesapeake and look at their current listings, there are two Hunter 31's listed: On Page 10 of 15: PHRF 183; Hunter 31 Shoal Draft Folding Prop, 154% Genoa On Page 13 0f 15: PHRF 180: Hunter 31 Folding Prop, Roller furler Above deck, 155% Genoa (I'd asume this is adeep keel version). I think these are mid 1980's boats since they seem about right against my 1986 Hunter 28.5 Deep Keel, folding prop, 155% Genoa rating of 174. If you are going to race PHRF on the Bay, you should join US Sailing and apply for a certificate. If you just want to try your luck against the fleet first, there are a number of races that have a non spinnaker cruising division and I don't believe you need to join anything or get a certificate. Check in with your local club and they can get you started either way. Don't assume a Hunter can't be competative either. We've kicked some serrious butt with our 28.5 over the years but she has a racing bottom , folding prop, Headfoil and Mylar 155 Genoa for light air. Good Luck out there!
