Corky, thanks for the pics. Was wondering if you could provide more detail on the c-clamps you used to attach to the rudder post. I don't understand what these are or where you get them. When I hear that word, I think of the clamps I have in the workshop for holding boards together after glueing. Thanks Ron M

c-clamp response
I go to the hardware store and where there are lots of hook eyes, clips, and other general hardwre. Basicly the are arod bent 180 degrees withthreads on each end and a metal plate that fits over them. The c part fits nicely around the post. I think it is the 2" c-clamp or the 2 1/4" one, mesure your post. The plate will bend when you tighten the nuts so I re-unforced with another plate. At my hardwre stores we can get the angle peices you see that are predrilled with holes. They are 1/4" holes so are ok for the c-clamp and plate. I used a 3/8" threaded bolt for more rigidity so had to dril out the holes. There are three pieces to the rudder post attachment. 1. the c-clamp bolt, 2. two pieces of the angle pieces turned 90 degrees to the c-clamp through which the threaded bolt goes 3. a piece of the angle iron as pictured to reinforce the plate on the c-clamp. Sorry I can not explain it better. i hope between the pictures and words and some expiermenting(sp) you can see what I mean. Corky

another idea on c-clamp
I did not try this but it would be an idea. See if you can find a muffler clamp large enough to go around the rudder post. It would have the advantage that the plat portion has a curved portion that would fit against the post. With my set up the plate want to bend as you tighten the nuts, so that is why I re-enforced with another plate that is a piece of angle iron. Just a thought. good luck Corky

Check out the auto supplies for the appropriately sized 'muffler' clamp. The fancy parts section may even have a chromed version.

What if you want to put your motor up?
Great pictures, however I couldn't tell if it was an easy disconnect if you want to raise your motor out of the water which I like to do since I am in salt water most of the time.

Rudder up
The piece that runs from the motor to the threaded bolt just pulls up off the bolt. It really is very easy. You don't want the hole too large in the cross piece as it will wobble. I then tip the motor up and the connecting rod(it is flat) lies nicely next to the motor. No need to bungee or anything. Corkt

Sorry-Motor UP
I titled it rudder, I ment motor. I make sure the screw that regulates the motors resistance to turn is rather light so as not to make it hard to steer when attached. The motor then lays over and holds the rod. Corky
