photos on Yahoo Group site

To those of you on the list who have posted photos at the Yahoo groups
site:

Yahoo Groups gives us only 30 megabytes for photo storage, and we are
currently almost full. We need to delete some photos to keep space open
for posting new ones related to specific issues under discussion.

We do not have a policy for what kinds of photos to post, nor do I think
we need one (yet). I'm hoping that those of you who have posted photos
will look back at what you have posted and see if you can delete one or
more. For example, in some cases a photo folder contains several fairly
similar photos of a Vega--but not all the separate views are necessary
to show the boat. In other cases, perhaps a photo is simply no longer
needed. For example, someone asked me once to post a photo of my swim
ladder, and I posted two--and I've just deleted them. Probably not all
that interesting to the group as a whole.

If we can do this voluntarily, great--I'd hate to have to pretend to be
a photo editor and make those decisions myself about other people's
photos.

As far as I know, you can go to the photo site and select individual
photos to delete. Someone tell me if you cannot do this. I had no
problem deleting my own photos--but then I happen to be the group
"owner" and Yahoo may give me power to delete that others don't have? If
you cannot delete your own photos, send me an e-mail speeeecifying which
(off list) and I'll do it.

Thanks everyone! But let's not be draconian--do leave good photos you
believe are interesting to everyone!

And a final reminder: low-resolution photos take up much less space and
look fine on the screen. I think I heard somewhere that for screen
viewing, 72 dpi is the maximum a person can see anyway, so there's no
need to take up more storage space with higher-resolution photos whose
resolution we won't see anyway (unless it's intended to be printed out).

Thanks again.
Tom
