Hi Peggy, do you know if it is possible to reverse the bowl/pump layout of a PHII? IOW, I want the pump handle to be on the left instead of the right. This will shorten my hose run to the tank and also allow me to better position my oversize bowl in the head compartment. It looks like you can simply remove the bowl and pump, spin the base around and remount the parts.

Thanks

Peggy, while on the topic of Raritan heads, any insight into the new head Raritan showed at the annapolis boat show? It seems to be a direct competitor (although less expensive and quieter) to the vaccuflush. It is called the Elegance and according to the sales guy, schedule to be on the street in January.

Yep, it's possible and easy to do

Simply remove the pump and the bowl from the base....rotate the base 180 degrees, then turn the intake elbow at the rear of the bowl to point in the opposite direction. Re-mount the pump and the bowl, and you should be good to go after you connect the hoses.

It's best to do it off the boat on a workbench (except for mounting the bowl onto the base).

As for the new Elegance...it has an all-ceramic bowl and a much smaller mounting footprint than the Atlantes has. In standard form, it will be fresh pressure water only and exceptionally quiet! For raw water applications, a remote sea water intake pump will be available. You only have to add the pump, no modifications needed to "convert" it.

When Vic at Raritan first told me about it in August, here's what he said: "What’s really interesting about it, other than the low sound level, is how it lushes. It has a special programmable wall switch. Like the Tecma, it doesn’t flush continually when you press the button. Instead, it flushes for a couple (maybe 2 or 3) seconds, then stops for a couple (2 or 3) seconds to clear any entrained air, then flushes again, for a total of three start-stop cycles. It’s really neat, and the suction is outstanding! We are calling it “Vortex-Vac” technology...The “vacuum" is created right in the actual bowl."

Front to rear dimension at top of bowl is 18.65” Max. width (bowl and seat) is 14.36”. Total footprint is 8.5” wide x 13.5” deep. To raise seat and lid requires a clear height of 32.25” from the deck level of the head.

List prices: pressure water model (built in solenoid valve and vacuum breaker) - $899.00. Raw water version, requires additional pump that is remotely-mounted (pump is included; inlet strainer isn’t) - $979.00.

Thanks Peggy. That is what I thought. I just wanted confirmation before tearing into it. I keep my head and potty very clean but it is still a dirty job.
