It's time to repaint the bottom and decide on the best paint for the job. My boat is in saltwater on the west coast year-round. Water temps range from 55 to 70 F. over the year. Cruising only, no racing, but have diver soft scrub bottom monthly.

The last paint was 2 coats of Pettit Trinidad in January 2006 and has performed well, but, the yard is pushing the Sea Hawk very hard, saying it will last longer. Does anyone have experience with both or (OMG!!!) have an opinion to express, good or bad.

Trinidad

I was in a similar situation a few weeks ago. I was trying to decide between Trinidad and Super Ship Bottom. I ended up going with the Trinidad, because I know what it will do, and how long it will last. A bottom job is too expensive, both labor and cost wise, for me to take a shot at an unknown factor.

I was talked into Sea Hawk by a local yard. I don't believe it performed as well as the Micron CSC I had used previously. The wife liked the available colors and another guy I know was going to use it so I gave it a chance. I thought the build up on the bottom happened too quickly. I was always scrubbing the bottom to keep it clean. FYI We keep the boat on the Chesapeake Bay in the water year round. We also have her out and about every weekend as well as 3 seperate week long trips. Doubtful I'll ever use it again.

Don't Be A Beta Tester On Bottom Paint

...but I guess someone has to be. The yard has (usually) no interest in your getting your maximum life out of a bottom job any more than a termite inspector working for a pest control company is (usually) going to find you don't have termites. IMHO, anyway. I'd stick with Trinidad.
