Hey Franklin...

Sail out... then you have the same set of rights the racers do. Racing doesn't give you any extra rights, but cruising doesn't mean you own the water either:)

On that piticular day that I found out that the racers do this, I was, along with 3 other boats. We were all going straight out the channel (not cutting corners) because the tide was very very low and none of us wanted to get stuck. The wind was behind us so they had the right away if your going by sail too, but...channels are different and you sure don't plan on overloading a channel that is designed for two way traffic of 3 boats side by side to have 20 boats verging there. Absolutely insane.

Complainers

My father-in-law may have had a few pet peeves-but I never heard them. He had MS; he could no longer walk; needed help for getting in or out of bed; in or out of a bathroom or shower or even a reclining chair. The evening he passed on he described seeing the beautiful light; hadn't eaten or had a drink for days; his body was just quitting on him. I wonder how many more days we each will get doing what we love; will I get enough wind to sail tommorrow, or to much and thunderstorms? Let's al bitch about the little annoying things so we miss the big picture. You're still on the green side of the dirt -- enjoy it while you can! That's my pet peeve.

Oh yeah...

people who take the "high road" and spoil the fun of a good gripe...;) For those of you who don't like griping, why on earth are you reading this thread and feel the need to share? I just don't get it.

Same Here Except for Drain Lake

We're up here in Echo Bay http://www.echobayresort.com/ (50 45.105N, 126 29.851W), near the northwest end of Vancouver Island) where there is a hot spot so I'm able to do a little surfing with the laptop. Re the original post I'd tend to agree but the part about draining the lake doesn't bother us - we're on salt water! I'm amazed how many posters there have been on this thread in so short of a time - seems there are many who have something to say..... Sauer's comment was a good one which I can relate to as my dad went through basically the same ordeal before he passed away. He had very few complaints in his life and a couple I can remember in his 90+ years were "money is the root of all evil" and he never liked the Hetch Hetchy Dam that ruined one of the most beautiful canyons in the Sierras which some say that was more beautiful than Yosemite (but then it's all about money, eh?) I thought Don's post had a well-written too. The problem with these boards is it's hard for some of us not to read the posts. Years ago I had a boss that said something like "Don't complain about something unless you are/can be part of the solution", or something like that. But then this was about work-related problems, something that would be potentially more fixable. One nice thing about the weather reports in Canada, BC, is they preface them with a Caution about watching and controlling your wake or wash as it may impact the shoreline, other boaters and marinas. Weather here has been Gales (30/35/40 kts) on Johnstone Strait for the past MONTH!

People.

They are all over the place. Doing their make up while driving. Balancing their checkbook at the drive up. Parking their grocery carts in the middle of the isle. Knowing they are going to pay for something and waiting till the last second to start to look for the money. Send their kids to look for something, while you stand and wait your turn. Walmart with 25 cash registers and three are open, and one of them is 10 items or less. The other is self checkout.??? Solicitors that call during dinnertime. When the kid calls on the phone, they always ask, what are you doing? Duh? Power boaters that want me to see all sides of their boat. Screaming kids. Barking dogs. People driving in the hammer lane doing the speed limit and absolutely wont move over, like this lane is their assigned lane. Tailgaters. I have a bad habit of testing their brakes. Rap music played so loud the windows in MY car vibrate. I've always wanted to pullout the 357 and blast their radio 5 inches from their ears, and ask them if they heard that! People that park in the handicap zone and don't need it. People that go to the gym for a workout that have to park as close to the door as possible. Whats with that? I could go on and on, but, we all know who we are and we just don't give a damn. As long as it doesn't affect me attitude Keep it up, Ctskip

S. Sauer, best post in this thread! It's always easy to bitch about something, but if that's all you've got... But what do I know, try a paintball gun on your peeves MG

I've got some great meds for my ills. I wrote that as to be funny. Those things are out there and bother me but not to the point of where I feel overwhelmed by them. Just like mosquitoes. They are more of a annoyance than bothersome. After all, if it weren't for the bad times, how would you know the good? Keep it up, Ctskip

One More Thing about Jet Skis

I just came into my dock this weekend after a three day cruise. On the way in the harbor there were two idiots on Jet Skis just sitting there in the middle of the narrow channel. It ended up being a close game of chicken but they finally moved when they saw me heading straight at them. Moving on past the channel there were litterly 15 Jet Skis going full speed all through out the channel. They were almost hitting other boats. One idiot had a really young child with them (the child was probably too young to swim). I noticed a new sign on my dock...it said "No Wake, Marina Docks" and the jet skis (after this incident I am convinced that you must be illitterate to drive a jet ski in my harbor) were flying by my dock and this sign....they were missing the end of the dock by 20 feet or less!!!! I pull into my slip to find three different sets of fish hooks with nasty old bait on them tangled on my dock lines. Some idiot that was fishing in my slip while I was gone hung them all over my dock lines. It is very interesting that I noticed that a powerboater, who also has a jet ski, was using the same type of hook on his fishing rods and his hooks even had dried on pieces of the same kind of bait (I find this very interesting). This guy is a few slips away and on the other side of my slip. I am pretty sure, but I lack the hard evidence, that this is the idiot that keeps on borrowing my hose and puts it back with part of it in the water (so it gets that nasty slime on it). I am now convinced that jet skis are the worst thing to ever happen to public waterways. I use to believe that having a "driver's license" for a boat was a bad thing but I now have reconsidered my position. At least we could educate these people so they could understand the bold print "NO WAKE"
