We just signed the papers at the Newport Show on a new H340, to be splashed next Spring. Home will be Dutch Harbor, Jamestown, RI. We have been sailing club boats out of Boston Harbor for several years while we learned more about sailing and what we wanted in our own boat. We have also spent the last two seasons following this website and all its forums on a daily basis, and we would really like to thank all of you for the help that you have given us, in two very definite ways. First was the basic decision to buy our own boat. We learned a lot sailing old, used-and-abused club boats (boy, did we ever; Murphy's Law rules!!), but the club maintains and manages the boats, so we never really learned much about maintaining and TLC'ing our own boat. This site and all of you have really helped us understand the kinds of things that we will need to do and how to do it, and we know that we have a fantastic resource to turn to when we need guidance. Knowing this took a big piece of discomfort out of our decision process. Second, once we had decided to buy a boat, was the decision to buy a Hunter. I don't think that we have to tell you all of the "traditional wisdom" that we heard about Hunters, usually delivered with tremendous conviction and no direct experience. But every time we looked at the boats, and the harder and closer we looked, we kept coming away liking the boats! Listening to all of you has been a key factor for us in getting past all of the "traditional Wisdom" and trusting what our own eyes were seeing. And then we sailed a 340 for a day, and that was that! Granted and Welcome.......

..from one HOW Hunter owner to another. Those comments will still keep coming, and then they will want to come aboard and then to sail and then back for more...... and then a few go buy 'em. BTW, we have friends and club members who also purchased a 340 and just one a club race against some very nice boats. Rick Dinon

Cool! You'll love your 340

There are lots of experienced 340 owners on this site, so you won't lack for people to turn to if you need help. God knows, they sure made a difference in my ownership experience! You've probably already done so, but in case you haven't, may I suggest that you go back and read the Owner's Reviews on the 340. You will pick up problems that other owners have had with their new boats and be able to "nip these problems in the bud," sometimes before the boat gets in the water. Good luck and fair winds, Wynn Ferrel S/V Tranquility

Ahoy

Carl & Juliana, I enjoyed reading your story and it reminded me of many of the the same reasons why Janet and I chose the Hunter 340. Ours is a 1997 # 134 and is on it's 4th season. We have been very happy with our decision really like it. Fair winds and happy sailing. Wayne & Janet, s/v Wind Drift

See you on the Bay

We have a 376 in Wickford (closeest port to Dutch Harbor) and will look for you in the spring. There seem to be alot of Hunters in Narragansett Bay (and Buzzards Bay) anyone interested in getting together next year for an informal gathering. Russell

No regrets

Congratulations, you made a wise choice. The 340 is a fast, safe boat that handles weather well. We Sail on Lake Michigan and grow to appreciate this boat more everytime we sail her. Chris Van Lauwe Festina Tarde Hunter 340 Hull # 107

Paul - Chandlers Landing is in.....

Texas! Where else could you find someone rude enough to ridicule a historic state like Wrong Island? :)

Thanks for the Welcome!

Thanks for the hearty welcome! We will post the launching here next spring and have a mini-party at the boat to celebrate the event. Hope that some of you from the area can join us. We are looking forward both to the sailing, and to making a lot of new friends! Carl and Juliana Dupre
