Perko vs. Vetus shell ventilators

Does anyone have experience with the durability of the Perko chrome plated zinc shell vents? Replacing two aged plastic vents and it's a toss up between the Perko #1312, and the Vetus stainless steel Scirocco. I can buy both Perkos for a little more than one Vetus but want the vent to be durable.

I have no experience with the Perko but looking at the Perko web site for these, they are doing the plating on top of brass. They certainly should work. Are you on the Great Lakes? So fresh water? If you have no plans to go sail on the ocean, I'd get them given the price difference.

If you are planning to head out to sea, perhaps the stainless ones might be preferred.
