I have a Perko steaming light that has a probable burned out bulb. the problem is that I cannot figure out how toremove the lens to change the bulb. In their infinite wisdom either the mast manufacturer or the builder rivetet the fixture to the mast. Since I have to go up the mast to change the bulb, I would like to know what has to be done. I tried getting the lens off a couple of years ago when the mast was down, and couldn't remove it then. Thanks to anyone with insight.

What model perko? If they are like mine, the bulb is accessed by removing the housing and getting to it from behind.. you may need to drill out the rivets and replace them with screws.

Cheers,

Some perkos had a bottom 'twist-in-out' bulb/mount receptacle. If the wire goes in from the bottom, spritz a little PB Blaster or similar on the bottom fitting, and see if it moves counter clockwise and pops out

On my Perko Steaming Light (and Spreader Lights) you have to remove the 2 screws that hold it to the mast (or Spreader) and in the back there are 2 screws that hold on the metal end caps. Removing one end cap will allow you to remove the lens, clean the contacts and replace the bulb. My bulbs are double ended Festoon bulbs.

Heck of a way to design a light fixture...
Since I wanted to rule out all possibilities before climbing the mast,I did some added troubleshooting. Yes, I had voltage to the junction box under the mast, however further checking revealed a not so obvious loose ground wire. Took it apart, and re connected it...Voila , steaming light is operational.
Thanks to all the replies about the light disassembly, at least I know what tools I nedto take up with me when the light eventually does burn out.

Doug, what you can do when or if it does die on you is to replace it with an Aqua Signal fixture. You'd still have to drill the hole or replace the fitting, but this unit allows you to replace the bulb(s) without taking the fitting off the next time.
