I read that Perkins recommends changing the timing belt every 3 years but the general consensus amongst some owners is 6 years. I have owned my boat for 5 years and who knows when the PO changed it last. So, I ordered a new belt and idler kit. I found a good write up here:

It seems pretty simple but I have some questions.
1. Do I really need a belt tensioner gauge
2. How do you use it, is it like a torque wrench? If so, what are the specs for the M60
I have done a timing chain before so I understand the importance of keeping the pulleys in sync and I have changed a lot of belts over the years but never a timing belt and this is one belt that I can't afford to screw up.
