Does anyone know the proper operating temperature of the perkins m30? The literature from perkins that came with a new thermostat says it is fully open at 195 degrees. Does that mean 195 is the correct operating temp?

I also switched coolant to Dex 50/50. Has anyone done this and noticed an increase in operating temp?

perse, usually that "fully open" temp is about 20 F higher than the "nominal" or controlling temperature.. I would guess that the "begins opening" temp for that thermostat is about 175F which would be close to the "operating temperature" That sounds about right for a fresh water cooled engine.. For instance my Yanmar thermostat is a nominal 160 F unit, which starts opening at 160 F .. it is fully open at 185 F..
EDIT: Note that if you have a water heater with heat from the engine, the temperature of your hot water will be VERY (dangerously) hot. The tank should have a tempering valve which automatically mixes cold in to keep folks from getting scalded.

thanks Kloudie. I installed new circulating pump, thermostat, and spring and engine temp gauge runs about 15 degrees hotter than before. I am running out of ideas to resolve. Maybe new thermostat is bad.
