We have an 1995 (or so) Perkins Perama M30 that needs a compression test. The challenge is that due to the configuration of the injector ports the stock compression fittings from the test kit are not long enough. We need an adapter and a thorough search (including Perkins dealers on both coasts) has not been fruitful. Ive attached a picture showing the difference between the injector (with blue paint) and the stock compression fitting and one can see the difference in length which makes it impossible to seat the stock compression fitting properly.
Has anyone out there had any success performing a compression test on this engine of about this era? And if so, how were you able to get the compression test fitting to fit? Is there an adapter out there we haven't been able to track down yet?
We also tried using the glow plug ports to conduct a compression test and once again the stock compression fittings we can obtain thread into the port but this time they won't seat fully due to the shape of the sealing edge of the glow plug vs. the stock compression test fitting (the bottom sealing edge)
Any information or advice is much appreciated! Boating season is nigh upon us and the engine right now will not even start!
of the glow plug is beveled and fits into the engine block with a mating surface, the bottom of the adapter is flat and does not seal.
