I own a Catalina 270 with a Perkins 20 diesel engine. Is anyone familiar with what the oil.capacity is and what engine oil is recommended for my oil change??

Since you are inquiring about something that is found in an engine manual, I am guessing you do not have one. You will need it for a number of reasons, being a new boat owner, will soon become apparent.
Attached is the manual for the Perkins M20.

If you are sucking out your oil through the dip stick, do not expect to get the listed capacity out. The dip tube is normally in the center of the sump and with the engine tilted back toward the prop, you will only get about half the old oil out through the dip tube.

Yea, I hate that! Fortunately my new boat has a hose on a drain plug kind of thing, but it still leaves some oil in the pan due to the angle.

I can pump virtually all my oil out by threading the suction tube down through the oil fill cap, through the push rod opening and into the very bottom of the rear sump. Took me years to find that .

I'd be scared that I might break off that tube somewhere inside the engine!

It would be cool if these marine engine makers would just relocate the drain plg to the back of the sump!
