Thanks for the input about Island Girl products but I asked if anyone had any experience with using Penetrol. I have heard it works pretty well. I tried a very good product last year...PolyGlow. It's good stuff but only held up for a few months. It's almost the same as Island Girl so I don't have big expectations about it.

Ok Roger :)

Tell you what you do, since none of us has apparently used penetrol. Take a rag with a small amount on it and try a very small area of the gelcoat, say on the side of a hatch cover either the cockpit or anchor locker if your boat has one and see how it reacts to the finish. I tried it

I used Penetrol on a 22 ft Columbia that I owned. I cleaned the surface well with "Bar Keepers Friend", a product much like Bon-Ami, but contains oxalic acid. Wipe on the Penetrol, and wipe off excess as according to the directions on the can. The results were OK. The powdery gel coat seemed to be restored somewhat. My boat's cockpit went from a powdery white to a light tan/cream color and smoothed out a bit. Care must be taken to avoid streaks and not let the Penetrol set too long on the surface to be restored as it will get gummy. Acetone worked as a clean up. I still have some Penetrol left and I use it in my recipe for "teak oil" (tung oil, lemon oil, and Penetrol). Mike I. C-30 Faith
