I have a Jabsco factory installed on my Hunter 356-2003. At my request the dealer put in a Jabsco electric conversion kit at delivery. It works extremely well, effective at emptying the bowl rapidly, and pumping almost dry after flushing, and we were very happy with it even though it has always been extremely loud when operating. But the conversion kit housing developed a slight leak after 3 years. I replaced the bottom flange gasket with a factory replacement, but after 1/2 year it leaks again. I am willing to order a complete repair kit and overhaul the entire conversion kit unit if it will stop the leaks. However in one of your threads on the Hunter owners' site you said than the Jabsco was the bottom of the line in heads. So three questions: 1) What is better than Jabsco in an electric head? 2) The unit has always been loud enough to wake the dead. Are there much quieter electric heads? Which? 3) Does it make sense to overhaul the conversion kit, or should I just replace the entire head, even though it would cost very much more? Thank you very much Ivan Bekey Solomons, MD Hunter 356 #157 S/V Victoria

I'd replace it with a Raritan SeaEra

Your Jabsco, only lasted 3 years before it began to have problems...and the fix didn't even last a year. You can keep pouring money into it till you eventually spend nearly enough to replace it with a good quality toilet, or you can cut your losses now and spend the money for a new SeaEra just once. All raw water macerating electric toilets are somewhat noisy, 'cuz contrary to what most people believe, it's not the macerator/discharge pump that makes all the noise, it's the intake pump. But the Jabsco conversion is MUCH noisier than most, costs more than most complete toilets...and it consumes nearly twice the power of most raw water electric toilets. If you want a really QUIET toilet, go with the pressurized flush water version of the SeaEra. You can keep your bowl and go with the "conversion" (everything BUT the bowl. Not only are pressurized flush water toilets very quiet, but they use about 30% less flush water and draw only 10 amps--compared to 16 for the raw version and a whopping 24 for the Jabsco you have now. These folks have the best price, just $365 for the pressurized flush water conversion: http://www.boatfix.com/elec/rarseaera.asp
