Pedestal Steering for C25

I am considering installaing a pedestal steering on my C25. I usually have three people in the cockpit and I think tacking would be easier if I did not have to go around the tiller each time. Has any one done this and if so how didi the boat handle with this. Thanks for any info.

tiller is better!

Rick, I had a 25 with a wheel. I prefered a tiller. Check the archives. Lot's said on this. Chris

Wheel Steering

Hi Rick, Edson makes a wheel steering lash-up for boats with a transom hung rudder that works pretty well. However, if your C25 is one with a dedicated fuel locker (I think this version started in about '84 so that you didn't have to put the fuel tank in the portside cockpit locker) the pedestal has to be located in the middle of the cockpit instead of toward the aft end of the cockpit. There is a C25 at my marina with this setup - but I noticed that last weekend the pedestal

Don't Do it Mon!

You will lose a good bit of feeling with a wheel due to mechanical advantage. I'll be the first to say that wheels probably look more "yare", but I am a function guy, not a form guy. Many posts on this in the archives, just search under Tiller. Best of Luck Rob
