I have a Hunter 27 with a pedestal/wheel steering. I want to build an Instrument Shelf to mount my GPS and Auto Pilot Display. I am looking for a source of 3/4" to 1" thick durable plastic type material that I can cut to a specific size, drill and tap and then mount to my pedestal.
Does anyone have a suggestion as to the type of material and where I might be able to find such material? Thanks.

Pedestal shelf

WM carries it as does Boaters Discount in La Conner, WA. Comes in different shades of white. I made mine out of teak and in a way that makes it a secure mount but easy to remove and store below decks when not in use.

If you mount them on a piece of plastic/polyboard, how are you going to waterproof the terminals on the back of the instruments?

I suggest that you look at some type of pod arrangement. You can also use a piece of plastic rail fencing and place caps on the end.

I used

I used 3/4" Starboard but it still needed support struts. This shelf replaced my pedestal guard top plate and holds two identical NavPods one for the plotter/radar and one for Depth & Autopilot.

Re. Pedestal Shelf

Do you already have the pods to mount on a shelf as seen in Maine Sail's fine installation? Maybe your instrument displays are too big for one like mine. It is the fence rail from Lowe's that Steve mentioned. Cost me $10. and I still have six feet of rail. My charplotter wouldn't fit so it is just mounted on the guard rail.

RE: Pedestal Shelf

Thanks all for your input and information. I located where to purchase Starboard and ordered some 3/4" in a few different sheet sizes. Thanks again.
