I am about to make an offer on a 1990 Peason. Can anybody advise me what to look out for in a survey?

Pearson 37

I raced extensively on a Pearson 37. It is a good fast design. A properly trimmed 37 sails exceptionally well to weather. Off the wind the boat is competitive. In wind over 20kts dead downwind with the chute up it can be a handfull. The narrow stern with the fin keel and spade rudder can be overpowered by the large masthead chutes. If you choke the chute or use a smaller chute the boat will do great. The boat itself was solid. We had 2 issues. The windows had leaks. We fixed them by overlaying lexan and through bolting them through the liner with a gasket. Rudder bearings. We went through a couple of sets of harken rudder bearings. Of course we sailed the boat very hard. Engine was solid, the rig was solid. After we finished racing the boat we set it up for cruising. With a #2 on roller furling, 2 people can easily handle the boat. hope this helps, good luck
